What Comes Through Your Front Door

They walk through your home telling you how to live, what to believe, what to look like, what’s right and wrong, good and bad.

Then they drop a few of their things in your lounge, then another knock, and another. All day long.

Would you let everyone in without giving it a second thought?
Let them rearrange your furniture to their liking, or leave their things lying all around your home?

I doubt it.

And yet this is what happens every time you open your feed. Every time you talk about your problems to a new person. Every time you look outside yourself for your answers.

Before you know it, your home feels messy, crowded and loud. You can barely remember what it looked like before they arrived. There is barely anywhere to sit, very little room to move and not a lot of space to breathe.

Your home is your body, your mind, your life, and what you allow to come through the front door influences and shapes the way you think, the way you feel and the way you engage with yourself, with others and the world around you. So much of it slips in unnoticed. A comment here, an opinion there, a scroll before you’ve even got out of bed, until it quietly becomes part of the furniture.

This isn’t about shutting the world out or taking time off social media. Connection, conversation and inspiration can be beautiful visitors. It’s about becoming aware of who and what you’re inviting in, and how you feel once they’ve gone.

What if you took the time to pause before opening the door? To notice how you feel once each visitor has left? To consciously choose who you would like to invite again, and who you would prefer not to?

Being mindful of what you consume and who you let into your home is one simple way you can protect your energy. It’s also how you begin to hear your own voice again, beneath all the noise.

Notice what, and who, you let come through your front door.

It becomes part of your home.
