A Friend Sits Down In Front Of You

A friend sits down in front of you...

They share the pain they’re experiencing, the challenges they’re facing and the things they’re struggling with. They are sat there asking you for support. How would you respond…

Would you ignore them and go about your day?
Tell them they’re being ridiculous and to get over it?
Say you don’t have time for this?
Get angry at them for wanting something from you?
Hand them a panadol and tell them they’ll be fine
Tell them to suck it up because you’ve got better things to do?

Hopefully none of the above.

And yet, that friend is your body. For many of us, this is exactly how we speak to and treat it. We push through the tiredness, quieten the pain, override the signals and keep going, as though the body asking for help is an inconvenience rather than an invitation.

The body you live in, the body you experience this life in.

There is no escaping it.

So next time your body asks for your presence and support, could you…

Come from a place of curiosity?
Could you want to understand rather than fix, appreciate all it’s sharing and simply listen?
Could you offer it the same love and compassion you’d offer a friend, and give it the guidance it’s asking for?

It’s a two way street, your body needs you just as much as you need your body.

You get to choose how you cultivate this relationship. Is yours a healthy, nourishing one? Or one where you keep avoiding and dismissing what’s asking for your attention?

No matter what you do, or don’t do, no matter where you go...

There you are, and so is your body.
